About Me

Hi there! I’m Susan or Sue (but probably not Susie, unless your related to me). I’m the mother of three little girls (Lily, Jovie and Annie) and the wife of a sportsy husband (Brad) who loves me despite my non-sportsyness. We have a dog (Snacks) and two cats (Pretzel and Peanut Butter). We really like naming stuff after food. One day I hope to own a miniature pony with a long flowing mane and tail. We will call her Cheesecake.

In 2012, My Inside Voices began oversharing about the heartaches, headaches, hopes, fears, calamities and victories of attempting to write a novel while raising children.

This will be the place, I thought back then, that I will document my journey and this will be the place, I thought back then, that I’ll find motivation to finish my story.

And it was. I finished my novel. I attempted to find an agent and get published. I wrote all about the creative process and adventures in motherhood along the way. Then life happened. And the rejection happened and I sort of gave up on the whole publishing part. I felt super sad and super lame and I felt like a giant failure face.

But through all that, I’ve continued to write and write and write. I’ve written myself through depression, fear, anxiety, confusion, loss and frustration. I’ve written myself through the ridiculousness and stupendousness of raising children. I’ve written myself through a search for meaning and purpose in this life.

Today, My Inside Voices is the place I sort through questions and uncover truths. It’s where I go to think.

It’s also where I’m reminded over and over that I’m not alone. That above all the day-to-day disagreements, squabbling and ugliness, humans have the ability to be tremendously compassionate, goofy, supportive and joyful beings.

If all that sounds like your jam (do people even say that anymore?) I’d love for you to walk with me for a bit (you know, metaphorically). Or, if you happen to be in Virginia and want to chat about whatever-life, creativity, motherhood, spirituality, the confounding nature of angry mobs, look me up.

Love,

Susan/Sue
